Osterbrunnen

"Easter Fountains"

(Taken directly from Wikipedia...) The Franconian Switzerland (Frankische Schweiz) is the origin of the so-called Osterbrunnen. It describes the colorful decoration of public water wells during the Easter season. Today, more than 200 villages decorate their village well with colored easter eggs. The main reason for this custom is probably the significance of water for the arid high plateau of the Franconian Switzerland. The Bieberbach Osterbrunnen (Egloffstein) was admitted to the Guinness Book of Records as "the largest Osterbrunnen of the world".

We went to the Bieberbach well last year, and it was pretty impressive - thousands of eggs on a fountain in a little tiny town!  And the drive out there was a wonderful springtime weekend activity.

But if you don't have time, you can probably find some, just by driving out our way!  They're in lots of little towns!

2. ERLANGER FRÜHLING SUNDAY, 15.4.12 from 1pm to 6pm

We, Friends of the Library e.V., will be running an info stand at this year's "Erlanger Frühling" (spring Sunday shopping). This is an opportunity organised by the "Stadtverband der Erlanger Kulturvereine e.V.", of which we are a member, for the clubs and associations of Erlangen to present their work.

Our stand will be on the "Platz der Vereine" on the Neustädter Kirchenplatz from roughly 13.00 - 18.00. We will be directly next to the Church. There will be lots of other interesting events and lots for children (performances on stage, bouncy castle etc.), so we're in good company!

We will be looking for volunteers who would be prepared to spend an hour or so manning the stand: Perhaps you will be strolling through Erlangen anyway on that day and wouldn't mind giving up an hour of your time to tell people about the wonderful work you do - and enroll new members and/or ask for donations!

We will send round a google.doc link next week in which you can enter your name in one of the time slots. In the meantime, consider whether you could spare some time on that Sunday.

Easter Market in Herzo!

Easter Market

30 March to 1 April 2012

On the market square and on the castle courtyard

For several years now, the market has been growing and the number of booths has increased. Many guests bring their families and take a stroll through the market.
The Easter market has traditionally been opened by the INA-retirees for years. On 30 March 2012, from 10 am on, they will decorate the Georgsbrunnen (St. George Fountain) with easter eggs. At 11 am, the Mayor will officially open the Easter market with a greeting and a school class from an elementary school will accompany the opening with some songs of spring.
The Easter market is open daily from 10 am - 6 pm on the weekend.

Organizer
