January 1 - New Year´s Day (Neujahrstag). Most museums will be open in the afternoon only.

January 7- Children return to school (Bavaria)

February 16-20 Schools closed

February 8 - Rose Monday (Rosenmontag)

February 9- Fat Tuesday (Fastnacht) 

February 10 - Ash Wednesday (Aschermittwoch). Also a Stilletag

February 16-18 are the final three days of the Fasching Season, and the beginning of Lent. Erlangen typically holds their parade on Feb 7 (Bruck) 2pm, Nürnberg is normally on Faschingsdienstag (no info available). Würzburg has the largest in the area also on the 15th. To really celebrate, head to Cologne, Mainz, or Dusseldorf.

March 30 - April 10 Schools closed - Easter vacation.

March 24 - Holy or Maundy Thursday (Gründonnerstag). Stilletag.

March 25 - Good Friday (Karfreitag) - also a Stilletag (no loud music, dancing forbidden. etc.)

March 26 - Karsamstag. Stilletag also. 

March 27 - Easter Sunday (Ostersonntag).

March 28 - Easter Monday (Ostermontag).

May 1 - Labor Day (Tag der Arbeit).

May 8 - Mother´s Day (Muttertag).

May 15 - Pentecost Sunday (Pfingstsonntag)

May 16 - Pentecost Monday (Pfingstmontag)

May 25- June 5 - Schools closed - Pfingsten vacation 

May 26- Corpus Christi (Fronleichnam)

August 3- September 14 - Schools closed - Summer vacation

August 15 - Assumption of Mary (Maria Himmelfahrt). Catholic areas only!

October 3 - Day of German Unity (Tag der Deutschen Einheit).

October 31 - Reformation Day  (Reformationstag).

November 1 - All Saint´s Day (Allerheiligen). Also, a Stilletag. 

November 2 - All Soul´s Day (Allerseelen).   

November 2-6 - Schools closed - Autumn vacation. 

November 11 - St. Martin´s Day and the beginning of the fifth season, Fasching.

November 16 - Day of Prayer and Repentance (Buß- und Bettag). Stilletag.

November 20 - Day to Commemorate the Dead (Totensonntag). Stilletag.
