January 1 - New Year´s Day (Neujahrstag). Most museums will be open in the afternoon only.

February 2 Maria Lichtmess

February 12 - Rose Monday (Rosenmontag)

February 13- Fat Tuesday (Fastnacht) 

February 14 - Ash Wednesday (Aschermittwoch). Also a Stilletag

February 12-14 are the final three days of the Fasching Season, and the beginning of Lent. Nürnberg is normally on Faschingsdienstag (no info available). Würzburg has the largest in the area . To really celebrate, head to Cologne, Mainz, or Dusseldorf.

March 2 - Pal5m Sunday (Palmsonntag).

March 29 - Holy or Maundy Thursday (Gründonnerstag). 

March 30 - Good Friday (Karfreitag) - also a Stilletag (no loud music, dancing forbidden. etc.)

March 31 - Karsamstag. 

April 1 - Easter Sunday (Ostersonntag).

April 2 - Easter Monday (Ostermontag).

May 1 - Labor Day (Tag der Arbeit).

October 3 - Day of German Unity (Tag der Deutschen Einheit).

October 31 - Reformation Day  (Reformationstag).

November 1 - All Saint´s Day (Allerheiligen). Also, a Stilletag. 

November 2 - All Soul´s Day (Allerseelen).   

November 2-6 - Schools closed - Autumn vacation. 

November 11 - St. Martin´s Day and the beginning of the fifth season, Fasching.

November 21 - Day of Prayer and Repentance (Buß- und Bettag). Stilletag.

November 25 - Day to Commemorate the Dead (Totensonntag). Stilletag.

December 23 - Third Sunday of Advent 

December 24 - Christmas Eve (Heiligabend). Depending on your location (and the store itself), stores will close between noon and 2pm. Stilletag.

December 25 - Christmas Day, First Day of Christmas (1. Weihnachtsfeiertag)

December 26 - Boxing Day, Second Day of Christmas (2. Weihnachtsfeiertag) 

December 31 - New Year´s Eve (Silvester). Stores will close between noon and 4pm
